Share a family tree without exposing living relatives
Treat anyone born in the last 100 years without a death record as living, and share only their name and place in the family, never their birth date, birthplace or other details. Kinroll does this automatically for every export, poster and printed book, and can show living people as “Private” instead.

Step by step
- Mark who has died. If someone born within 100 years has died but you have no death record, tell Kinroll “Uncle Pietro has died” so they aren't hidden.
- Choose how living people appear. Names only (the default), or “Private” with no name: say “Show living people as Private”.
- Export for sharing. “Export my tree as a GEDCOM file” leaves living people's dates, places and notes out.
- Keep a full backup to yourself. “Export a full backup including living people” is for your own files only.
Why it matters
A birth date, a birthplace and a mother's maiden name are the answers to many bank security questions. Living cousins also never agreed to appear in your tree.
Records carry identifiers too: Social Security numbers on some American death records, T.C. kimlik numbers on Turkish registry extracts. Kinroll removes them before anything is saved.

Questions
- How does Kinroll decide who is living?
- Someone with a death or burial record is not; someone born within the last 100 years is. Without dates it estimates from parents, children and spouses, and when nothing is known it treats the person as living.
- Can I override it?
- Yes: tell ChatGPT that someone has died, or that someone is living.
